The Clinical Need

When Delayed Diagnosis Delays Healing.

Chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, post-surgical complications, and skin infections often involve complex microbial environments that traditional diagnostic methods may miss.

Delayed or incomplete pathogen identification can lead to ineffective treatment, prolonged healing, antibiotic overuse, and worsening patient outcomes.

Vediagnostics utilizes advanced molecular testing to rapidly identify wound pathogens and resistance markers, helping providers make more informed treatment decisions faster.

98%+ Sensitivity
Molecular Diagnostic Power

Rapidly detecting complex wound pathogens that culture plates miss.*

Traditional Culture

  • Up to 3-5 days wait time
  • Lower sensitivity in chronic biofilms
  • Cannot detect fastidious bacteria
Recommended

Molecular q-PCR

  • Results in ~48 hours
  • Sensitivities & specificities >98%
  • Detects poly-microbial biofilms
  • Antibiotic resistance screening
The NAAT Advantage

Beyond Traditional Culture Testing.

Traditional wound cultures may take several days and can fail to detect certain pathogens accurately.

Our molecular wound panel uses NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing)to provide highly sensitive and specific pathogen detection with improved diagnostic confidence. Molecular testing delivers sensitivities and specificities >98% versus lower traditional methods.

Molecular Analysis Scan
Diagnostic Confidence >98%

Automated amplification targets precise bacterial and fungal genetic patterns, minimizing cell growth delay.

Higher Diagnostic Accuracy

Detect pathogens traditional culture methods may overlook.

Understanding Wound Care
Molecular Diagnostics

Molecular wound testing uses qPCR (polymerase chain reaction) to directly copy and detect the genetic material of bacteria and fungi from the wound bed. This avoids the delay of traditional cultures (which require cells to divide and multiply over several days) and identifies anaerobic bacteria locked deep within clinical biofilms.

By identifying drug resistance genes (like mecA for MRSA or CTX-M1 for beta-lactams) within 24-48 hours, our test alerts providers which antibiotic classes will fail. This prevents ineffective empirical treatments, reduces tissue degradation, and speeds wound healing.

A clinician obtains the specimen using a sterile E-swab to gently swab the wound bed (recommending the Levine technique to capture deep-tissue fluid). The swab is then placed in our molecular collection vial to stabilize the pathogen DNA during transit.

Yes, Medicare and most private commercial insurers cover molecular wound panels for chronic, non-healing, complex, or acute surgical wound presentations when documented medical necessity (such as signs of infection or failure to heal) is present.
